* Who killed Ghenghis Khan?!! There are many photos and videos from the very special Iron Maiden Tribute Concert, performed by Baaba Kulka at Warsaw's Hard Rock Cafe, last Tuesday. Thanks to everyone for coming - it was an incredible night! I hope I can play with Baaba again very soon, and bring some more maiden madness into the world. ;-)

* Continuing the video subject
- Plejada.pl has some more of the interview with Gaba and the band - it's in Polish - I hope to translate it for you soon - it's about not being a debutante, about the demanding rehearsals and about sandwiches on the road.

* The National Polish Radio's music site has kicked off its
music blogs, and one of them is written by Gaba Kulka - it's in Polish and full of love for Alice Cooper. Um... yeah.

* ATTENTION! Very soon, THIS TUESDAY August 5th at 10 PM <<Baaba Kulka>> plays @ Hard Rock Cafe, Warsaw - the special show of Baaba and Gaba Kulka pays tribute to Iron Maiden in a decidedly whacky way!

(the picture's incomplete - Tomek Duda, the sax player is missing, skipping this particular rehearsal...)

You can watch Gaba's "Almost Unplugged" shot for gazeta.pl - in a garage, and in truly 'garage' conditions.Acoustic, piano-less renditions of "In The Lens", "Lady Celeste" and an interview with bits of "Rolemodels" in it. I hope you like it.
I would also like to remind you of the upcoming Warsaw shows:
- Theater Montownia on July 25th (with the band, Raalya)
- A new project: August 5th Baaba Kulka, in Hard Rock Cafe Warsaw, presenting (with the musicians of Baaba) a wicked, strange Iron Maiden tribute.

11 February 2008

* On February 29th, at 8 pm, I will play a solo concert at Cafe Kulturalna (Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw). It's a special charity event organized by the Expatria foundation. The money raised from tickets (they cost 10 zlotys), and collected at the event will go to the medical treatment of Aleksandra Wladimirowa, a 15 year old from living in Belarus, who is suffering from type 1 diabetes. Expatria raises money for an insulin pump and other medical treatment. Aleksandra wants to study painting at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts - hopefully the medical treatment will give her a chance to fulfil her dreams. Here's a note about the upcoming show . This is another solo gig at the Kulturalna. Last time I persuaded Kornel Jasinski to acompany me on base. Let's see who might join me this time around...

* There's an interview/questionnaire at infomuzyka.pl - I took part in... (Polish)

* A huge re-design took place at Myspace.com Things look, sound and move in a thoroughly improved fashion (plus there's a change in full-length tracks to be heard from the album)

* Soon: orchestral sounds and pictures from the Kalisz concert! Meanwhile a fresh, rocking mp3 track - 'In the Lens' in our live, band version (with Raalya):

This is a very special event for me, I hope I'll see you there.

Youtube has some footage from the Zielona Gora, Index Art Concert, realized by Youth tv:
- Laleczka + King of Rats
- Interview
(I hope that soon I will have larger pieces of this solo show to present)

In the press, in many end-of-the-year round-ups 'Out' has been doing very well.
In the January issue of 'Twoj Styl', a major monthly women's/lifestyle magazine
, Agata Passent has written

"[This year's most impressive debut is] the first Gabriela Kulka album, She is feminine, avant-garde, ironic. A demonic poet, singer and arranger. She doesn't repeat boring cliches, but follows her own path"

In the Christmas edition of Polityka (Nr 51/52 - 22-29 december 2007) the album 'Out' reached the 4th spot in the annual ranking of major cultural events (in the pop-music category):

" Pop, jazz and cabaret all in one. Gabriela's voice - original, one of a huge scale and impeccable 'feeling', and her equally interesting piano talent will move anyone who hears this album. "
